Are there contraindications for PermeaDerm? u The use of PermeaDerm on any patient with a known allergy to porcine or Aloe Vera materials is contraindicated. How should the wound bed be prepared for the use of PermeaDerm? u PermeaDerm should only be used on cleanly debrided, non-infected wounds with the nylon side in contact with the wound surface. All debris and non-viable tissue must be removed before the application of PermeaDerm. How does the skin not grow into PermeaDerm? u Keratinocytes migrate under the biosynthetic wound matrix, which allows for re- epithelialization. Once this occurs, over 7-14 days, PermeaDerm becomes loose and can be gently lifted off the wound. Do you recommend stretching PermeaDerm? u Yes. A clinician should ensure PermeaDerm is wrinkle-free with slight tension and no more than 10% elongation. Clinicians should minimize elongation when using PermeaDerm on a face. How much can you stretch PermeaDerm? u The maximum stretch recommended is 10%. Which side of PermeaDerm® is applied to the wound? u Place PermeaDerm on the wound with “This Side Up” facing away from the wound. The silicone layer should face away from the wound (labeled “This Side Up”), while the biocoated 3D nylon matrix layer should be in contact with the wound surface. How can PermeaDerm be fixated to the site of intended use? u PermeaDerm can be secured via standard methods, such as staples, tape, sutures, and skin glue, and should be left in place until healing occurs. How long do you leave PermeaDerm on the wound bed? u PermeaDerm should be left in place until healing occurs. For superficial burn and donor sites, this is typically 7 to 14 days. For meshed autografts, it depends on the degree of meshing. Larger meshed autografts take longer to heal the interstices. Chronic wounds heal more slowly and may require new product application if PermeaDerm becomes non-adherent. What is the shelf-life of the PermeaDerm? u PermeaDerm has a shelf life of 5 years from the date of manufacture. A clinician should not use PermeaDerm if the expiration date has passed, there is any observable damage to the packaging, or the product has been stored outside its specifications (0°F - 130°F). How can a clinician address fluid collection? u A clinician can aspirate or roll out any non-purulent fluid accumulation, rewrap PermeaDerm with a sterile gauze dressing, and observe for adherence in 24 hours. Can PermeaDerm be used with a wound vac? If so, what setting is appropriate? u We have no data or anecdotal information related to the use of a wound vac over PermeaDerm. What secondary dressing should be used with PermeaDerm? u Absorbent padding, such as dry gauze, should be held in place for 24-36 hours with light pressure. Avoid products that contain a petroleum base, as these will prevent the PermeaDerm from adhering to the wound. How is PermeaDerm offered? u PermeaDerm is offered as sheets sold on a per-carton basis. Depending on the size of the sheet ordered, the carton may contain multiple sheets. “I used PermeaDerm on my 2nd-degree burn on the bottom of both my feet. The PermeaDerm stayed in place on those wounds for 8 days with no changes. I experienced less pain and healed in a week. It exceeded my expectations!” NORM JORGENSEN – DVM, CEO - Jorgensen Laboratories
